Forward Collision Warning

As an industry leader in the field of automotive engineering, Hyundai has introduced a number of safety technologies in recent years, such as Forward Collision Warning, that combine recent sensor and computing advances to give drivers enhanced awareness of the road around them.  But what, exactly, is Forward Collision Warning, and what separates it from other Hyundai systems like Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection?

What is Forward Collision Warning?

Hyundai Forward Collision Warning is a type of collision avoidance technology that alerts the driver of an equipped Hyundai vehicle if they are approaching another vehicle too quickly.  If it senses that an impact will occur if the Hyundai's current speed and direction are maintained, the Forward Collision Warning system emits a series of audible tones that alert the driver to the need to either reduce engine power or begin breaking.

How Does Forward Collision Warning Work?

Cars with Forward Collision Warning are equipped with a forward-facing digital camera that scans the road ahead of the Hyundai while it is driving.  As the camera scans, it simultaneously sends the images it captures to a computer that analyzes them in real time.  This computer is able to then identify any automobile it sees in the image, assess the speed and distance between this automobile and the Hyundai, and then trigger the audible collision warning system if it calculates that an impact will occur if the Hyundai maintains its current direction and speed.  While this may seem like a complex process, every stage occurs within a fraction of a second.

It should be noted that Hyundai also offers another crash avoidance technology called Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection that, among other functions, uses optical sensors plus radar technology to detect if an equipped Hyundai is in danger of impacting an object that's ahead on the road.  Likewise, Hyundai Smart Cruise Control uses a radar system to maintain a pre-set distance between an equipped Hyundai and preceding vehicles on the highway.

What are the Advantages of Forward Collision Warning?

While no current crash avoidance technology is meant to serve as a substitute for human decision making and common sense, systems like Hyundai Forward Collision Warning can serve as an extra layer of protection for drivers and their passengers.  Even the most experienced and responsible drivers, after all, are occasionally distracted, fatigued, or emotionally compromised while operating a vehicle, and a collision warning system that can alert them to potential hazards can only help to sharpen their focus.

Does Rosen Hyundai Offer Cars With Forward Collision Warning?

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and 2016 Hyundai Azera are two examples of cars that can be found at Rosen Hyundai that are available with Forward Collision Warning.  As the official Algonquin, IL Hyundai dealer, Rosen Hyundai also carries vehicles, such as the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, that are equipped with the more robust Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection system as either a standard or available feature.  For more on the latest Hyundai crash avoidance technology or to learn more about these specific models, contact Rosen Hyundai at (888) 757-5628 or stop by 771 South Randall Road today!
